Every Book Is An Adventure

I have been flooding y'all with tags this month (and there will be more coming) and I am not one bit sorry. 😇 But hey, you gotta get in all the Christmasy tags while you can, righttttt?

Katja left this tag open, so I snurched it (isn't that a fun word, snurch? I love it!) because I have way too much fun with tags. 😁

Le Rules:

  • Link to the original post (from Hannah's Happy Thoughts, which I'm not familiar with)
  • Credit the person who tagged you
  • Tag 1-3 more bloggers (hehehehe)

Le Questions:

1. When do you consider the holiday season officially started?

As soon as Thanksgiving lunch is over. 😇 That's often when we put up the tree and outside lights (though sometimes the lights go up sooner, depending on the weather). But I usually start listening to Christmas music well before then; this year I think it was late September . . . ?

2. What’s your favorite thing about winter?

Christmas! Seriously, it's the best (and pretty much the only) good thing about winter. I LOVE the holiday season SO MUCH - but my mental health usually takes a major nosedive about mid-January. 😥

3. What’s your least favorite thing about winter?

Winter. End of story.

4. What do you like to do in the snow?

I . . . don't, really? I mean, sometimes I like randomly throwing a snowball at my dad or brother. And building snowmen can be fun. But I just usually prefer watching the snow fall with a hot drink, a cat nearby, and some writing in progress.

5. What’s your favorite holiday tradition?

Probably going to the historic governor's mansion, which I talked about in this tag.

6. How do you usually celebrate Thanksgiving?

(Why is this question here? I guess because it's a holiday tag.) We eat too much food (which actually isn't much compared to some people's Thanksgiving tables), "reenact" the first Thanksgiving story with some old toys (it changes every year, and it's NEVER remotely close to the original 😆), and put up the Christmas tree once we've recovered from our food coma.

7. How do you usually celebrate Christmas?

My brother and I get up early and lay on the floor in front of the tree while we wait for our parents to get up. We open our stocking presents before breakfast, and after we eat, usually we sing some Christmas hymns and then open presents with music playing and the cats wandering around. Often there are some Legos involved so we put those together later in the day. And like Thanksgiving, we eat too much food for lunch 😆

8. What’s your favorite type of pie?

Toffee apple crumb pie. I love it with vanilla ice cream. I do really like a good cherry pie too, though!

9. What’s your favorite winter/Christmas-themed emoji?

Hmm, this is a fun one! Maybe the snowman. ☃️ He's so cute! In MS Teams (which I use to chat with my friends), there's a zany face wrapped in Christmas lights, which is one of the BEST emojis ever!!!

10. What’s your favorite Christmas song?

"I'll Be Home for Christmas", sung by Bing Crosby 🥰 I posted that and my favorite hymn in the Winter Wonders tag as well. This year I've discovered that I also really like Elvis (not always his style, but I love his rich voice), and I'm loving several of the songs from his two Christmas albums. 💕

11. Do you have a Christmas tree? If so, how do you like to decorate it?

Yes! It's a 10-foot artificial. We always decorate it with white lights (which have an annoying tendency to go out) and our massive, very eclectic collection of ornaments. It ranges from little homemade paper things, to old traditional stars, to plastic Santas from my dad's childhood that used to have candy in them, to my large collection of owls, to glittery tanks and fighter jets (!) from Hobby Lobby.

12. What’s one gift you would like to receive for Christmas this year?

Nerdy bookish merch, or half-size notebooks, or vintage stuff. I LOVE vintage stuff! 😊 But I also love being surprised by something I never expected.

13. Would you rather host a holiday party or go to someone else’s?

Honestly I'm not a huge party person, but I'd probably rather go to someone else's party. That way I don't have to prepare and then clean up afterwards 😅

14. What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. We've been watching it every year for my whole life. We just watched it last night and I FINALLY found Yukon's guitar! It's on his sled, tucked in with all the bundles.

(Has anyone else ever noticed that there are some really weird toys on the misfits' island? And am I the only one who's always loved King Moonracer?)

15. What do you like to do on New Year’s Eve?

Umm . . . hang out with the family? We don't really *do* anything special. There was one year we watched 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which was fun!

16. Have you ever stayed up ’til midnight?

I haven't intentionally stayed up, but I have definitely been up. We tend to be night owls, and I am an insomnia girlie 😛

17. Do you believe in New Year’s Resolutions?

Nope. 😆 I always end up breaking them before I even start to try. (Cynical of me, I know. But I gotta be honest about the way I am. 🤷‍♀️)

18. As of now, have you kept any of yours from 2025?

I don't think I made any, but if I did, I highly doubt that I kept them.

19. How long do you get off of school for winter break?

I'm graduated! 🥳 But when I was in college, we usually got from the second week of December to the second week of January. It was LOVELY to have so much time off.

Now that I'm working, my schedule is actually pretty flexible, since I work from home. I'll probably take Christmas Eve through Sunday the 28th off, and maybe New Year's Day.

20. Overall, how much do you love the holiday season on a scale of 1-10 (1 being the worst part of the year 10 being absolutely amazing)?

100/10. I absolutely love Christmas, it's my favorite time of year and I always look forward to it.

I'm going to leave this open if anyone wants to snurch, because I know there have been a LOT of holiday tags flying around. Merry Christmas, my peeps! 🎄

  1. You know you’re a fanatic when even a mention of owls makes you think of Owl City…HELP I’VE GONE OFF THE DEEP END.

Honestly it’s been way too long since I watched Rudolph. We should really pull that out again!! There’s just too many Christmas movies and not enough time to watch them all. That doesn’t stop my grandparents though XD They have the world’s largest collection of Christmas movies and watch them year-round.

    1. Lol. One mention of sunsets or gold and I think of The Outsiders, so . . . 🤭

Hehe, the only other Christmas movie we watch is Charlie Brown. Lol that must be quite a collection!

      1. I still need to read that *mentally highlights The Outsiders on TBR* but also GOLD??? Owl City song detected…🎶cuz what you’ve got is gOLD//I KNOW//YOU’RE GOOOOLD🎶

Charlie Brown is essential. That kid is gold, I tell you *stifles urge to burst into song again* Well, he and Linus. Poor Charlie isn’t much without Linus.

        1. YESSSS my plot is working MWA HA HA
          What have I done?! XD

we has a gold theme now XD stay gold, Charlie Brown . . . oh wait a sec, wrong story 😂 yesss everybody needs a Linus!

          1. Honestly The Outsiders has come highly recommended by one of my friends, not to mention it’s a classic and thus on the list of books that Must Be Read.

Also it’s gold, apparently, and thus has an Owl City theme song. What could be better?? XDXD

          2. YESSSS, it Must Be!
Lol right?! XD I like choosing theme songs for books – my Outsiders theme was Leader of the Pack, which is from the same era. 😁
