Every Book Is An Adventure

Morning, folks . . . *yawns* . . . ‘scuse me, I need more sleep. But anyway, I have a couple things for you this morning . . . the first is a short story about Sgt. Parker from We Gave Our Tomorrows (contains spoilers, though, so be warned!) and that’s on the WGOT website (I’ll probably put it on here too at some point).

Second thing is the Goodreads Tag, which I stole from Katja Labonté @ Little Blossoms for Jesus! My answers probably won’t be very long, since I don’t have as many books listed on GR as she does, and I’m tired, and I’m leaving for coffee with a friend in about an hour. 🫠

1) What was the last book you marked as “read”?

Trains and Tulips by Savannah Jane McCrary (I haven’t written my review yet). I was asked to be a beta reader, and ended up finishing it in one day, it was THAT GOOD.

2) What are you currently reading?

Um . . . a lot? 😆

  • Spurgeon’s Sermons on Prayer by Charles Haddon Spurgeon (my dad reads this to us on Sunday evenings, and it’s so good!)
  • Adorned: Living Out the Beauty of the Gospel Together by Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth (reading for ladies’ Bible study)
  • The Complete Brambly Hedge by Jill Barklem (I ADORED this series when I was a kid, and I got this for Christmas. I’m not actively reading it, just reading one story at a time when I need something short and VERY sweet. 😊)
  • The Bible, KJV
  • The Works of John Newton, Volume 1 (I’m currently in Cardiphonia)
  • The Italian Folgore Parachute Division: Operations in North Africa 1940-1943 by Paolo Morisi (ahem, it’s for research. *cough cough*)
  • Mystery of the Whale Tattoo by Franklin W. Dixon (also a read-aloud from my dad, going through the Hardy Boys series. This one is pretty meh so far. 🫠)

3) What was the last book you marked as “to-read”?

On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness by Andrew Peterson. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Wingfeather Saga, so I wanna give it a try! (It sounds hilarious – that’s my main reason for wanting to read it. 😆)

4) Do you use the star system?

Yeah. Most of my books are rated at 4 stars. 🫠

5) Are you doing the 2025 Reading Challenge?

I am, but I don’t think I’m gonna be able to make it. 😆 I have my goal set at 70, and so far I only have 30 books read; and Goodreads is telling me that I’m 8 books behind right now.

6) Do you have a wishlist?

Sort of . . . top of the list would be Enemy Brothers by Constance Savery. I’ve tried SO HARD to get a copy and keep getting foiled in my efforts 😭

7) Who are your favourite authors?

Ahem, that’s not fair! For classic/older authors, that would be J.R.R. Tolkien, G.A. Henty, and Helen Wells; for contemporary, I’d say Chuck Black, Brian Jacques, Katja Labonté, and Savannah Jane McCrary just made the list. 😊

8) Have you joined any groups?

Umm . . . no, because when it comes to online interactions I’m very much an introvert. 🫠 There are a few I’ve thought about joining, but haven’t done so. (Besides, one of them hasn’t had any activity in YEARS.)

9) How many Goodreads shelves do you have?

47, including the default Want To Read, Currently Reading, and Read Shelves. Some of my favorite shelves are autographed, awesome-covers, cinnamon-roll-tortured-hero, indie-author, and set-in-kentucky. (Yeah, I have a shelf for books set (at least partly) in Kentucky, because that’s where I left my heart, in the Bluegrass. 😊 I have one for books set in Wyoming too, because there aren’t many of them.)

Thanks for leaving this tag open, Katja! I had fun with it. Any of y’all who are on Goodreads are welcome to steal it too! 😉

  1. Loved seeing you do this, Phoebe! I hope you can get ahold of EB; it’s literally my favourite novel ever… <3

And oh my word thank you so much for naming me as a favourite author!!! <3 <3

  2. I really REALLY want to!! Sadly my library doesn’t have it (I don’t know if I can get an interlibrary loan), and when I tried to order a copy online, my order got canceled. 😭

    Of course! 🥰
